Communication Strategies Group
The Communication Strategies Group is for young children with limited language and their parents/caregivers. Parents will learn language facilitation strategies (Hanen) and how to incorporate them in a play-based environment with games, arts, crafts, songs and books. The group runs for 1 hour per week for 4 weeks.
Let's Get Communicating
This parent-child group encourages the acquisition of early receptive and expressive language as well as early speech sound production skills. Parents will be coached in how to address their child’s specific speech and language goals. The group runs 1 hour per week for 8 weeks.
Expressive Language
This group encourages the development of expressive language beyond the three word phrase. Children’s vocabulary will be enhanced with categories of nouns, verbs, and adjectives. Early concepts of big/little, on/off, etc. will be introduced. In addition, early grammar will be promoted. Target structures include prepositions (in, on, under), verb endings and pronouns (I, you, we, they). Treatment will be conducted in play based activities, and during snack time and sharing circles.
- School
Readiness
-
The focus of this group is to improve children's higher language verbal and nonverbal communication skills. Through structured, theme-based activities, your child will gain school readiness skills and will have an opportunity to practice these skills with peers. Targeted goals include expansion of vocabulary, sequencing, story telling, grammar (e.g. prepositions “in front”, “behind”, “beside”), social communication skills (e.g. turn taking, asking questions), and concept development (e.g. full/empty).
- Receptive Language
-
This group is designed for the child who is having difficulty understanding language. This group will help your child to understand: vocabulary, concepts (i.e. big, soft, in, on), directions and questions. Turn taking, sharing and attention to task will be targeted during a variety of group activities.
