Early childhood educators are a vital component to the early intervention process for speech and language delays.

Speech and language intervention can be incorporated in to the classroom in partnership with speech language pathologists and communicative disorders assistants.

  • Transition To The School Boards
Some children require additional support following junior kindergarten. Services can be accessed through the local school boards and the Community Care Access Centre of York Region.
  To Make a Referral:

Child care staff may facilitate referrals to the York Region Preschool Speech and Language Program in two ways:

  1. Complete the Parent & Early Years Professionals E.R.I.K. Early Referral Identification Kit with written permission from the family; the York Region Preschool Speech and Language Program's intake worker will then contact the family by phone to complete the intake
    ERIK

  2. Suggest the family phone 1-888-703-KIDS (5437) to make the referral

Families are then mailed a questionnaire to be filled in and sent back to their area office in preparation for the assessment. Families may request assistance from the child care staff to fill in this form accurately.
