- Children
must reside in York Region
- Children
can be referred at birth up until December of their Junior Kindergarten
year (or the year that they would normally attend junior kindergarten).
- A concern
regarding the child's speech and language development must be present;
the York Region Preschool Speech and Language Program does not specialize
in behavioural or global developmental programs, but will work in conjunction
with other agencies.
- As part of the referral process, families must complete and return the intake package within two (2) weeks of receipt.
- If the
child does not live in York Region, the family can be referred to their
local Preschool Speech and Language Program. Central intake phone numbers
can be accessed through the Ontario Ministry of Children and Youth Services , Preschool Speech and Language Program. Also
see our Information Links
for websites of some of our peer programs in other Ontario regions.
- If the
child is in the latter part of Junior Kindergarten or in higher education,
a referral to the school speech and language services is recommended.
This can be facilitated by the school principal.
- If deemed
appropriate by the school speech and language pathologist, a referral
to the Community
Care Access Centre (CCAC), School Support Services program may be
initiated by the school.
- Some families
may wish to pursue private speech and language services. A private practice
registry is available through The
Ontario Association of Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists
(OSLA)
1-877-740-6009.
