Moving to York Region
A process exists that allows children and families to transfer from one Preschool Speech and Language System to another, maintaining original referral and service dates.

The process is as follows:

  • Parents must give written consent for their child and family information to be forwarded to the York Region Preschool Speech and Language Program.

  • The referring Speech Language Pathologist from the external preschool initiative must:

    1. provide the family with a home program or suggestions to foster the development of speech and language skills in their child,

    2. send all reports and home program to the receiving program, and

    3. provide the family with a contact name and phone number for the family within the York Region Preschool Speech and Language Program.

  • The family is encouraged to call the York Region Preschool Speech and Language Program contact while waiting for service if they are have questions or concerns regarding the home program provided.

  • The child's name is placed on the waiting list for service through the York Region Preschool Speech and Language Program based on the child's original referral date to the program in which they were first referred.

  • The timeliness of service will depend on the current length of wait based on the initial referral date.
