Admission Criteria

Our services are free and available to all preschool children and their families living in York Region.

• focuses on the prevention, early identification and treatment of speech and language problems.
• is a dynamic program, which partners with parents and resources in the community to provide help for children close to home.
• provides information about normal speech and language development and screens for delays.

Information About Eligibility

Speech Language Pathologists and Communicative Disorders Assistants provide:

• parent education workshops
• assessment: individual, paired or group therapy when necessary
• home programs
• transition planning with the York Region School Boards

Who Is This Service For?

• Children from birth until senior kindergarten entry are eligible to receive our services if they are having difficulty talking, understanding language or interacting with others
• Parents / guardians of preschool children
• Child care staff, nursery school and kindergarten teachers, home child care providers and staff of Ontario Early Years Centres

Why Early Intervention?

The earlier treatment begins, the more effective it is - even children under a year can be helped.

Early intervention:

• reduces the chance of long term social, emotional and educational problems
• prevents problems from getting worse
• reduces parent's anxiety
• puts parents in touch with the correct help and support as soon as possible

How to Refer ?

If you are concerned about your child's speech and language development, please make the referral as soon as posible. There is currently a 10 month wait to be seen for an assessment with one of our SLPs.
